Adjunct Professor Dr. Zaharuddin Abd Rahman has extensive 18 years of corporate, banking and finance experience, including products structure, legal, audit and risk. He is currently a Founding Managing Director of Elzar Group of companies.
Currently he is also serving as Adjunct Professor at Faculty of Business and Accountancy of UNISZA & UNISEL, a member of Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission of Malaysia, Chairman of Shariah Committee of Exim Bank Malaysia, PUNB and ONEXOX. He is also a Shariah Committee member of EPF Malaysia (Simpanan Shariah), Sidq Salam Malaysia and a former Research Fellow of International Shariah Research Academy (ISRA) and a Shariah Scholar of Bursamarket place.
He was a member of Board of Directors at University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNisZA) where he is a Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee and also a member of Finance & Investment Committee of UnisZA; additionally, he served Board of Trustee of Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YAPIEM) where he is also a Chairman of Risk Committee.
He also appointed as member of Majlis Syura (Consultative Council) of Penang and Perlis Fatwa Council. Dr. Zaharuddin served as an Asst. Professor at the Kulliyyah of Economics, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for more than 10 years. He obtained his degree from University of Malaya, MA in Shariah from Al-Yarmouk University, Jordan and PhD in Islamic Studies and Finance from University of Wales specializing in Islamic Derivatives and Maqasid al-Shariah.
He is also a certified Islamic Finance trainer and lecturer by The Markfield Institute of Higher Education, United Kingdom.
His has served RHB Islamic Bank Ltd, Malaysia as a Senior Shariah Manager & Product Development and later, joining Asian Finance Bank Ltd as Head (Vice President) of the Shariah Compliance. He has a vast experience in Shariah, audit and legal where he has served various institutions as Senior Consultant & Shariah Advisor for Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM), OSK Investment Bank, Deutsche Bank, Al-Rajhi Bank Malaysia, Standard Chartered Saadiq Bank, ACR ReTakaful Bahrain, BIMB Securities Sdn Bhd, CIMB Islamic Bank and others.
To-date, he has written over 21 books and hundreds of articles on Islamic Jurisprudence and Islamic Banking and other Shariah matters in journal, including local and international magazines and conferences. He frequently appears in the local television and radio lecturing on various Shariah issues especially with regards to the Islamic commercial transaction.
